Radio Spots 2010
I’m State Representative Bill Hilty. I’ve spent a few years now in the Minnesota legislature learning its ins and outs, building relationships on both sides of the aisle, earning the trust and respect of my colleagues, and achieving real results. Experience matters -- especially in these challenging times. There's a lot of hard work to be done and a lot of hard decisions to make, and that’s why I’m running for re-election. I’m Bill Hilty, and I’m asking for your vote on November 2nd.
I’m State Representative Bill Hilty. As chair of the House Energy Committee, I've helped make Minnesota the national leader on sound and aggressive energy policy. That's one of the keys to sustainable development in these hard times. There's much more to do. I’m Bill Hilty and I’m asking for your vote on November 2nd so that I can continue working for you and for our economic future.
I’m State Representative Bill Hilty. In hard economic times people need help. That’s what government does—it is all of us coming together to work for the common good. There will be some very hard choices to be made, and we need someone making them who cares what happens to everyone, not just the privileged few. I’m Bill Hilty and that’s why I’m asking for your vote on November 4th --because I want to be there for you.
I’m State Representative Bill Hilty and I’m running for
re-election to the Minnesota House of Representatives. I was raised on a
forty-cow dairy farm. I’ve worked in agricultural research, and as a precision
machinist. I’ve been a foundry worker, a route driver and a college teacher.
I’ve been a member of the Steelworker’s Union
and the UAW. I’ve been a business owner with experience in both manufacturing
and retailing, and I’ve been involved in the hands-on management of every
aspect of our business, from personnel and purchasing to sales, engineering and
financial management.
I’ve spent the last fourteen years in the Minnesota legislature learning its ins and
outs, working with both sides of the aisle, and getting things done. Experience,
understanding, and compassion really matter. We’ve got a lot of work to do and
a lot of hard choices to make, and that’s why I’m running for re-election. I’m
Bill Hilty and I’m asking for your vote on November 2nd.
The following is the text for the candidate profile being broadcast by WDSE TV on Oct, 17th and Oct. 31st:
I’m State Representative Bill Hilty and I’m running for
re-election to the Minnesota House of Representatives from District 8A, which includes
parts of Carlton, Pine, and Saint Louis counties.
I’ve spent quite a few years now accumulating valuable experience.
I was raised on a forty-cow dairy farm. I’ve worked in agricultural research,
and as a precision machinist. I’ve been a foundry worker, a route driver, a
retail clerk and a college teacher. I’ve belonged to the Steelworker’s Union and to the UAW.
For most of my working life I’ve been a business owner with
experience in both manufacturing and retailing, and I’ve been involved in the
hands-on management of every aspect of that business, from personnel and
purchasing to sales, engineering, and financial management. I have a bachelor’s
and a master’s degree from Purdue University and I’ve done extensive graduate work at
the University of
Minnesota, where I taught
for six years.
I’ve spent the last fourteen years in the Minnesota legislature--learning its ins and
outs, building relationships on both sides of the aisle, and earning the
respect of my colleagues in both the House and the Senate.
I know how to bring
people together to make things happen.
As the Chair of the House Energy Policy and Finance Division,
I have helped make Minnesota
an acknowledged national leader in energy policy. As the chief author of the
Next Generation Energy Act, I worked with all members and with the Governor to pass
a controversial and nation-leading bill with overwhelming bi-partisan support.
As a member of the
Next Generation Energy Board and Co-chair of the Legislative Energy Commission,
I’ve had a key roll in developing policies that are not only good for energy
and the environment, but that also create good jobs here in Minnesota.
As a legislative leader on elections issues I made sure that
Minnesota
elections would have a voter-verifiable paper trail and a post-election audit,
and again worked with both sides of the aisle to get overwhelming bi-partisan
support for reform measures that in other states are highly controversial. That
work has made Miinesota’s election law the acknowledged gold standard for the
nation.
If you return me to St. Paul, I’ll continue to work for fair
and progressive tax restructuring, for fully and fairly funding public
education at every level, for universal
health care, for creating and keeping good jobs here in Minnesota, and perhaps
most importantly, for confronting the global energy crisis, and turning it into
a positive economic opportunity for our state to once again prosper and lead
the nation.
The next legislative session will be one of the most
challenging in our state’s history. We are facing a revenue shortfall that may
amount to as much as twenty-five percent of the total state budget. A lot of
hard decisions will have to be made, and in spite of what some people are
saying, there are no simple, and no painless solutions.
I think that this is a time when experience, understanding,
and compassion really matter. That’s why I’m running for re-election. I’m Bill
Hilty, and I’m asking for your vote on November 2nd.
